Local official, residents, lawyers condemn judge's gunslaying in Ilocos Sur

Tagudin, Ilocos Sur (7 October) -- Local officials, local residents and group of lawyers in the province announced Wednesday their highest degree of condemnation on the gunslaying of Judge Reynaldo Lacasandile last Monday along the national highway in Barangay Lacong this town.

Mayor Roque Verzosa expressed his utmost grief on the judge's killing saying it was a great lost in the judiciary.

He described the victim as intelligent, well- principled, fair, honest, low profile and simple man.

To hasten the investigation of the incident, the office of the mayor and the members of the Tagudin town's council offered a reward of P100,000.00 to those witnesses who could give any information leading to the identification of the suspects and mastermind on the killing.

He appealed to the witnesses to appear to help the police in the identification of the killers.

Verzosa, a former police official, appealed also to the lawmen to conduct intense probe in the assassination of Judge Lacasandile without fear or fervor.

Meanwhile, the members of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP) - Ilocos Sur Chapter condemned the killing of Judge Lacasandile.

Lawyer Marvin Tibangwa, incumbent Candon City Councilor and former IBP - Ilocos Sur President, sponsored a resolution condemming Judge Lacasandili's killing in the city council and was approved.

In a related development, police operatives had released the cartographic sketches of the suspected gunmen based on the description stated by the witnesses.

Tagudin town's chief of police Senior Inspector Benedicto Cardenas told that the suspects were reportedly seen roaming near the residence of Judge Lacasandili in Barangay Salvacion of said town before the incident.

It was recalled that Judge Lasacandile, the presiding judge of RTC Branch 20 in Vigan City, was waiting a ride going to Vigan City at Barangay Lacong, Tagudin town when he was shot by two suspects riding in tandem aboard a red Honda motorcycle at about 4:45 in the morning.

The victim was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician.

Immediately after the shooting incident, the Ilocos Sur police formed Special Investigation Task Group (SITG) "Lacasandile" to conduct an in-depth investigation of the shooting incident. (PIA Ilocos Sur)
