MANILA, Philippines — The bicameral Commission on Appointments (CA) unanimously confirmed on Wednesday the appointments of two new members of the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC), a constitutional body supervised by the Supreme Court of the Philippines.
The constitutional body, however, deferred action on the appointment of acting Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Corazon ‘’Dinky’’ Juliano Soliman.
Confirmed in Wednesday’s plenary session chaired by Senate President and concurrent CA chairman Juan Ponce Enrile were Jose V. Mejia and Ma. Milagrosa N. Fernan Cayosa.
Their appointments were endorsed by Sen. Joker Arroyo, chairman of the CA justice and judicial and bar council committee.
Mejia represents the academe while Cayosa, daughter of the late Supreme Court Justice and former Senate President Marcelo Fernan, represents the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP).
“I am elated that I was confirmed so i can definitely concentrate on my duties as JBC member until July (9), 2015,’’ Cayosa said, after her confirmation.
‘’We have been working to ensure that only competent persons with integrity, probity and independence are appointed to the Judiciary and the office of the Ombudsman, including the Philippine Legal Education Board. I am relieved that the CA confirmed me unanimously,’’ she added.
